Well it's been a long time since I've added anything to this blog. Consider it a natural downside to the winter season. Not much in the way of tiki torch parties going on here so not much content to add to a site devoted to tiki torches. But there's a change coming to this site soon that certainly warranted a quick note to my readers.
I spent a few hours in the company of good friends at our local watering hole Friday night catching up after not having seen each other in a couple months. There was lot's of reminiscing, meeting of new friends, a lot of laughs and, on more than one occasion, questions about how I intended to kick off the outdoor party season when the weather finally warmed.
One of the folks in attendance was a new face; a pleasant young woman (we'll call her Ellen) in town visiting my wife's good friend. She perked up as one of my friends ribbed me about my tiki torch blog and started asking me a bunch of questions. I didn't think much of it, answered her questions, gave her the link to the site and then let the rest of the night carry me along in that calmly chaotic way a night out drinking with friends tends to do.
Where Can I Buy Patio Torches Online?
The following day I received an email from Ellen. Here's what it said.
Tiki (not my real name either, obviously) -
I had a great time last night and really enjoyed meeting you. I took a look at your site and loved the advice, tips and recipes. I'm curious, though... why don't you sell tiki torches on your site? I actually wanted to buy a couple.
Thanks again,
E
What you should know about Ellen is that she's in marketing. I didn't realize that as I read her letter (we have a firm NO WORK CHAT policy at our gatherings) but I soon discovered her profession after calling her Saturday afternoon to thank her for coming and to answer her question about the blog.
I rang up Ellen and explained the drive behind my blog (the tiki torch blog is simply an extension of my passion for throwing great outdoor parties). Great, she exclaimed, but what about folks who visit your blog who are actually looking to buy tiki torches? I responded that the ads on my blog (they are randomly generated around the tiki torch topic) would probably get them what they need.
We ended our conversation with idle chat and her promise to attend the first tiki party I throw in 2010 and I assumed that was the end of it. An hour later, though, Ellen called back. Apparently, it isn't in her nature to let an idea drop.
Ellen explained that, from a customer perspective, it's really irritating to have to go through multiple steps to make a purchase. Since my blog is focused on the topic of patio torches, it will naturally attract visitors who want to make a purchase. By catering to their needs I not only have a shot of paying for my hosting fees, but I also give my visitors something they need or want. She further explained that I wouldn't need to worry about storing any inventory. What I should do, she pointed out, was simply throw up some affiliate products. If people see something they want, they could simply click the affiliate link and make the purchase they need. Amazon, she said, could be just the marriage my visitors and I need.
Shop for Garden Torches Online!
After giving it a lot of thought that night, I concluded that Ellen might be on to something and I checked Amazon out. Sure enough, they have a small selection of tiki torches. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by the prices too. In my experience, they are highly competitive. I certainly can't argue with the convenience of being able to shop for garden torches online, either. Most importantly, they offer the most commonly purchased models which is what most of you will probably want to start out with. I really can't find any fault in Ellen's thinking.
So, folks, that's the upcoming change to this site. Over the next few weeks I'll begin writing tiki torch reviews and revisiting some of my previous posts to ad in links directly to Amazon so that you can buy tiki torches online without going through the hassle of browsing for ads on this site which may or may not give you what you want. I hope you find the change helpful. I know I'm looking forward to gearing up for spring (wish it would hurry up and get here) and getting new and helpful content up.
